The Season We're In

Hello, friend.

Welcome back to our porch swing.

This week was a long one.

School officially started, which meant getting everything ready at the beginning of the week while somehow keeping up with sports practices, work, the farm, farmers markets...and everything else that apparently doesn't stop just because school starts.

And this year, I'm learning something new:

Being a sports parent is no joke.

The boys chose soccer and football, and figuring out how to make practices, games, work, the farm, and everyday life all fit together hasn't exactly been easy.

But we're making it work.

And watching them makes every bit of the craziness worth it.

They've both found something they're passionate about. They've made new friends. They've found teammates and this whole new sense of brotherhood that comes with being part of something bigger than themselves.

Saturday officially kicked off game season, and both of their teams won!

Watching them out there, I couldn't help but feel proud.

Not just because they won.

But because I get to watch them discover who they're becoming.

And apparently we're not slowing down anytime soon. 😂

Just when I thought fall sports would be enough, they've both decided they want to play indoor soccer this winter...and spring soccer after that.

So I suppose I'm officially accepting my new identity as a sports mom.

I'll let you know when I figure out how we're supposed to eat dinner. 😂

But somewhere between practices, games, school mornings, work, chores, and everything else, I can feel another season changing too.

The warm summer nights are starting to disappear.

As excited as I am that game season has begun, there's always a little part of me that's sad to watch summer go.

But then I remember what's coming.

Cool evenings.

Sweatshirts.

Fall bonfires.

And those nights when everyone gathers around the fire and stays outside just a little longer than they probably should.

Maybe that's what life feels like lately.

One season ends just as another one begins.

And sometimes we're so busy trying to keep up with everything that we almost miss how good the season we're in actually is.

We're finally settling into a routine around here.

I know things will get easier.

Or at least...that's what I'm telling myself. 😂

Before you leave the porch swing today, I want to hear from you:

What's your favorite fall tradition with your kids or family?

I'm always looking for another excuse to love fall.

Until our next visit,

❤️ I'll save you a seat.
